High Country Green Drakes
This is a video that was wonderful to plan & travel to fish, to specifically target terrible weather, to dig in and produce a parade of cutthroat trout on nymphs, before watching heaven’s gates open for a magical window to fish & film. This entire process of planning, travel, fishing through to the hatch to the final edit… was one of the more enjoyable ones to produce in some time. We encourage you to use the patreon app/ HDMI or wireless casting to watch on the big screen. And if you don’t have heaps of time right now, slide forward to about the 34 minute mark and catch the green drake hatch footage. Yeah… 🙂
We hope this video serves as strong reminder that those cold, dark, wet days are typically the best ones to fly fish – and stick it out until the magic arrives. Lost in editing is the fact that the N Ram R is about 4 1/2 hrs from our home and we didn’t arrive until after 11 am – and even after a nearly 75 minute walk downstream we had ample time to break down & work the water with nymphs and enjoy the full hatch, filming far more trout than made this final cut. Yay for us… the point is that you can have some of the most magical days fly fishing if you hone in on the possibilities that these cold, dark, wet days offer. Further note, the N Ram was flowing about 6m3sec, about twice summer flows and definitely off color at 4′ clear visibility.
