FLYING ANTS
This video features stunning imagery of flying ants shedding their wings. It’s something we hadn’t filmed prior this and is a fascinating look at the minutiae of nature.
This video is intended to get your mind thinking through the possibilities of your home waters or to travel to fly fish regions that have flying ants. Yes, the Columbia River in BC, Canada has them but so do many other warm climate, heavily forested regions of N America. For an early season terrestrial, it gets trout looking up. Also, about now, the late summer flying ant event kicks in and those “what are they eating???” rises often reveal themselves as tiny flying ants, especially across the west.
We look at the lifecycle and the opportunities that exist once ants take to wing twice a year, delving into the fun & joy of the dry fly fishing it brings!
