This is your chance to tap into our unique, extensive & diverse experience.

We host a limited number of immersive guide days for intermediate to advanced anglers seeking to advance their skills. Our guide days are designed to be educational & transformative, blended with engaged moments with some solid trout.

Our focus is not about catching, our focus is on sharing the process and educational components to springboard your foundations and success. Book your guide & instructional trip to learn the subtle advanced tactics experienced anglers implement daily, leading to consistent success. We share our cadence, pace, patience and low impact fishing that respects trout in its environment to give us our best opportunities.

The guided sight-fishing trip with the Jensens was not to be missed. Being a big fan of their fly fishing video channel, it was a chance to “step into” one of their videos (not filming) and receive personal instruction on how they approach finding big trout and positioning for success.  It was not a numbers game and not advertised as such as we worked on the details and led to the moments of engagement and execution. Over the course of 2 days we caught 6 fish but all 20+.  They are the same down to earth people you see on your TV screen, very personable and eager to share their experience.  I definitely recommend the trip to anyone interested in this type of fishing.” Van L

Most fly fishers consider themselves far more advanced than they actually are, focused on successful casting rather than subsequent line control issues from subtle casting errors, for example. And then there’s a whole world of entomology, stream & trout biology, ecology & trout observation, approach, position, casting, hook set, fighting, etc that dictate what subtle actions and approaches we apply to various situations. The difference between advanced anglers and expert level comes in knowing what can be done when, what the trout behaviour tells us, or why trout will be where they are, doing what they’re doing… and when to execute your cast. We deconstruct and reconstruct your fly fishing foundations on the water in advancing your short game.

The totality of the above is what differentiates us, as you’ve undoubtedly seen in our videos. We’ve established ourselves amongst the leading trout stream fly fishers, not only with high success rate on rod but taking the time to capture it on video as we share on social media and feature video. The fact we make this all look simple and straightforward reflects the experience we share with you.

I came back from the trip with even more enthusiasm for fly fishing.  My trip with you exceeded my expectation for sight-fishing and building confidence on independently approaching bigger waters.  The feedback on technique was invaluable.  I know what a good cast feels and looks like, and hopefully how to rebuild when I get out of rhythm. I feel like I can watch (and now even rewatch) the videos on Patreon and pick up much more of the subtlety of what you are communicating.  There is still so much to learn, but I feel like I have way more tools now to be able to piece things together. Thank you for the amazing moments and consistent kindness.” Jordan V

We apply these techniques as we engage ‘interesting trout’:

Sight-fishing – stationed & feeding trout that are rising or sway nymphing in shallow slots & troughs or are cruising cycles

Head hunting rising trout during specifically sought out hatches with dries & nymphs

Streamer fishing – breaking down the water and knowing how to make adjustments to weight, depth, size, movement, directionality, etc.

WHERE & WHEN – All days and trips are hosted in Alberta, Canada. Our range includes southern Alberta tailwaters (Oldman, Waterton, St Mary Rivers), the Bow River, Red Deer River and central Alberta brown trout streams. We choose the location based on conditions and the specific tactic available, unless you are specific (ie – you want to learn to sight-fish the Bow River or fish the brown drake hatch on a specific water). At that, however, the specific location of our day will be up to us if conditions push.

May: Streamers; Hatches: skwala stones, march browns, olives, PMDs & caddis (Oldman River, Bow River, Central Alberta brown trout streams, Red Deer R)
June – Streamers; Hatches: Brown Drakes, Caddis, PMDs, the big stoneflies (Oldman River, Bow River, Central Alberta brown trout streams, Red Deer R)
July – Sight-fishing; Hatches: PMDs, caddis, golden/sally stones (Southern Alberta tailwaters, Bow R, Central Alberta Brown Trout Streams, Red Deer R)
August – Sighting & terrestrials, Green Drakes (Bow, Southern Tailwaters, Central Brown Trout streams)
Sept – Sighting & Headhunting fall mayflies (Bow R, Southern Tailwaters)

EXPECTATIONS (Yours & Ours):

– You are hosted/guided only by Dave or Amelia Jensen
– On walk & wade days you must be able to comfortably/naturally walk 10+ Km (6mi) through the course of the day.
– While we may float in our inflatable jet, fishing will be done from a wade perspective.
– We find 4 to 12 interesting, solid trout (as you see in our videos) per day to break down (often many more but that’s situational)
– Though we will help you with the leader, tippet & fly set-up, you need to be able to change up a fly or 2 on your own, so we can focus our attention on sighting, hunting and communicating as needed.
– We host one or two anglers per guide.
– While we may plan to do one tactic we may have to dive into other tactics based on conditions. We’ll certainly cover and detail the primary goal you inquire about but may have to apply other tactics.
– In the case of 2 anglers, the intent is to engage both of you in the situation on that specific fish, however, only one angler can engage it. Taking turns on subsequent fish while learning while not on the rod is the intent. If you choose to deviate and fish on your own, you must do so downstream, away from the active angler/guide scenario. This trip is about observing & learning.
– We may offer a change of location based on conditions, requiring you to travel or change accommodations.
– Please come prepared with your A-Game of approach & casting, prepared to learn subtleties while listening attentively and prepared to give your best try as you apply our suggestions! 🙂

AVAILABILITY:
May 1 through September 30

In early September, I embarked on a journey that was more than just a fishing trip – an adventure alongside the fantastic Dave and Amelia Jensen. From the first moment, their warmth and hospitality was incredible. Every detail was thoughtfully planned in a trip that took us to some of the most beautiful rivers I’ve ever fished. Before the trip, Dave and Amelia were incredibly patient, answering all my questions and making sure I was ready for what was to come. As instructors, they are a perfect blend of expertise and approachability. Their guidance transformed my fly fishing skills. We explored a variety of rivers, each with its own unique character over 4 days.

I had the thrill of sight-fishing for large brown trout with dry flies, the challenge of using streamers from a boat, and the subtle art of sight-nymphing in shallow riffles. Each technique opened up new insights. What struck me most was how much I learned—not just about fishing but about appreciating the natural beauty around us. This experience reshaped my approach to fly fishing and deepened my connection to the rivers.

I returned to my Pennsylvania streams and found the hatches sporadic. I took everything I learned and applied it. After some fun with small streamers in the low light, I started noticing the occasional splashy rise.  There were large October caddis and slate drakes coming off and the trout were looking up. I was able to headhunt my way up, and practiced the longer leader and worked on my casts. I don’t think I would have caught many – if any of the fish I did catch – prior to my trip with you. I would have just tightlined. I had some epic eats, and lost a monster thanks to what I learned.

If you’re looking for an adventure that combines education and inspiration, look no further than the Jensens. Their passion and hospitality create an unforgettable experience that stays with you long after the lines are reeled in. I can’t wait for my next adventure with them, and would recommend anyone thinking about it to jump on the opportunity”. Ben S
