NEW ALBERTA FEATURE: “Dave’s Birthday Boogie”

Welcome to an engaged and inspiration filled video for how things unfolded this day! Playing this video on a larger screen like your TV will help you to see the more subtle presence of trout smudges, shapes and colors of big trout inspecting Dave’s flies on a few drifts – they aren’t all plainly obvious. It gives you great feel for what you’re really looking for in real time.

Taking the time to explore a “new to you” piece of water is so often beneficial as you’ll see in this video. It takes being willing to put on the miles of walking and time to get beyond the fishless water to find the niche habitat where the trout are holding and feeding. For us the goal of the day was simply to discover for ourselves the trout that lived there, the catching was an added bonus. There wasn’t a huge number of natural hoppers showing themselves as yet that season, but it became obvious that trout were imminently keyed into them and that shows in places.

Dave’s intensity and engagement on the rod in finding and hooking some very well conditioned brown trout is palpable 🙂 You’ll learn that just because one piece of water has trout coming to the surface to eat hoppers doesn’t mean that another very similar looking section of water will be the same. Adaptability to going below the surface will often tell you what that water is capable of holding and you get to continue your quest to simply know what lives there.
