NEW FEATURE VIDEO: “OUR MOST EPIC NEW ZEALAND DAY”

This is our annual day to this reach of water. If there was one day that I could say we work all year toward, this is the one. It’s a surreal day yet there are few surprises. The day has changed for us through the years. What was once a “take it on, go see what’s there and just be giddy about the fish” has morphed into “we know what’s there, let’s time it to the best conditions possible and go immerse ourselves into it again”. Make no mistake, it’s an effort to get to this piece of water and out in the same day given the access. There’s no better place in the world to feel all Julie Andrews on that mountain top meadow in The Sound of Music with a fly rod in hand. That value has far surpassed the big fish component. If the fish were 1/2 the size it would draw us similarly, the entire experience is simply magical. And yes, we tend to be rather shattered by the end of this day. We usually do two or three days similar to this one then drop out of the high country to plod along willow-lined streams to chill out a little before taking it on again.

The truth is that there isn’t a lot to share beyond what we do in this video, what the fish and landscape share. It all speaks for itself so well with prior lessons applied to make this a game of pitch & catch with some incredible trout in an incredible location.

Again, we encourage you to watch this one on as large a screen possible given the scenic values and the fish eats. The Patreon App can play the video well while casting to a large screen tv.
