New Feature Video! “Streamers & Foam on Alberta’s Red Deer & Bow Rivers”
One of the most difficult things to do as a couple… is film prospecting in a manner that shares what we’re doing, show the how & micro where while fishing repetitively as needed, plying buckets, seams and all little trout houses as we move down river in a boat at the 4 or 5 miles an hour. Also in that mix is the 30 or 40 years of fishing & guiding these waters, conveying those decades of not only experience but the individual memories of specific fish or happenings along the way. We can’t convey all, can’t jam endless stories or memories, let alone detailed how-to into a 45 minute video. There’s a mix, a blend that comes out of it all that has to “work” in a manner that you come away with the how-to, where-to, why-to while seeing enough of what we do successfully that maybe you incorporate it into your fishing. And then there’s the whole “experiential vs how-to vs what (other) values do we share in the larger mix of this channel, sharing diversity while honing in on the core of showing/sharing trout behaviour and reading water.
Quite a blend!
The upside of living in Alberta, Canada is that the highways get you where you want to quickly. Just over 3 hrs from the Crowsnest Pass to the Red Deer River covers heaps of trout water. Sometimes the temptation on a two day window is to take it on, that’s what we do in this video. A quick trip up highway has us up early to catch the sunrise at Red Deer where we walk through some of the experience/history we’ve enjoyed, breaking a few locations down as we cast a double streamer setup. There are heaps of little tips and sharing of the break down of the water in what we’ve seen. While you may or may not ever fish the Red Deer, applying the same breakdown on your local can help find trout even when things aren’t firing.
