NEW SPECIAL ALBERTA FEATURE: “EVOLUTION of EARLY”

It’s something to set your calendar to, something that literally happened yesterday as I type this. We’ve had a good spring here in SW Alberta the past couple of months, really – well before spring officially began. And then, boom, yesterday dumped 6″ of heavy, wet, fresh snow. Literally a year ago to the days, we endured similar, before then waiting several days to head out on the river for an overnighter. Life at the toe of the mountains happens about the same annually.

This is an experiential video that sandwiches a day floating at this exact time frame a year ago. The fishing component is essentially streamer fishing with the focus on the streamers as in Dave’s Fly Box series – Small Streamers & Woolly Buggers. Note the adjustments and voiced expectation of how things go. Sometimes the cold water is sluggish fish, sometimes these spring fish are long and thin after a hard winter, other times the prior season’s fish are fit and in-stream food in good, positive energy and we find solid fish to start the season. But within that the water temperatures can slow trout to sluggish as well, then compounded once more by bright, sun conditions.
