NEW SPECIAL FEATURE: “Fly Fishing BC’s Columbia River Caddis Hatch – IGNORING ADULTS”

The last video, the first visit to BC’s Columbia R, was a setup. “Knowing” would be a great video title in the future; once you know what the river flows look like, the available habitat & structure, get a feel of the seasons and fish presence/movement, the insects or things like access near the water you want to fish, you can quickly close the gap to hone in on what you find interesting. I say it that way specifically because on a river like the Columbia you can truly hone in on what you find interesting. Some anglers want dry fly only, others love to nymph, some don’t care about fish size while other anglers only want the biggest fish present – no matter how you have to fish to catch them. Within that, how, what, where do you want to fish can become the question on a river like the Columbia and you can find water that fills the want. Despite being so huge and impersonal at first blush, it allows for almost every type of angler to target trout as they please.
This video is knowing what water type we wanted to fish and then honing in on how to catch the fish in that water based on observation.
With the above in mind we watched the forecast closely last spring and as the weather went from prolonged cool & cloudy to bright sun & hot by early May, we thought that if ever there was a trigger to the flying ant flight that would be it – and maybe the heat would trigger the caddis hatch.
Bingo on both.
